What Is An Ultrasound Scan?
An ultrasound scan is a test that uses high frequency sound waves to create a live, moving image of a person’s internal body structure or in the case of pregnancy imaging of the developing baby. The image is displayed on a monitor while the scan is being performed. During the examination, a small amount of clear, water based gel is applied to the area of examination. The sonographer then moves an ultrasound probe over the area of interest, pressing gently when required.
For some ultrasound examinations preparation such as fasting or filling your bladder will be required. We will provide instructions over the phone prior to the examination. Ultrasound does not use ionising radiation and there are no contraindications associated with its use.
