Early Pregnancy Scan

(Up to 11 weeks)

An early pregnancy scan is usually performed to confirm how many weeks pregnant you are, but can be performed for other reasons, such as bleeding or if you have had previous miscarriages.

The early pregnancy scan will confirm the following:

  • The pregnancy is correctly located in your womb

  • Viability - A heart beat is demonstrated

  • Determine if it is a single or twin pregnancy

  • Confirm your expected delivery date

Cost €100

Advanced Early Pregnancy Ultrasound

(11 weeks to 13+6 weeks)

From 11 weeks gestation your baby has reached a size where certain structural checks are possible.

An advanced early pregnancy scan will confirm the following:

  • The pregnancy is correctly located in your womb

  • Viability- a heartbeat is demonstrated

  • Determine if it is a single or twin pregnancy & determine the chorionicity in a twin pregnancy (identical verses non-identical twins)

  • Confirm your expected delivery date (accurately assessed by measuring the crown-rump length)

  • Assess the amniotic fluid volume

The following fetal anatomy checks will be performed to:

  • Assess the shape and structure of your baby's skull and brain and exclude conditions such as anencephaly.

  • Assess that the abdominal wall has closed & the umbilical cord is inserting normally.

  • Assess your baby's arms, legs, hands and feet.

  • Some organs may be assessed including the baby’s stomach, kidneys, bladder, spine, & heart. These organs are seen in more detail at 20 weeks however, certain conditions may be detected at an early scan.

  • Measurement of the nuchal translucency

The Nuchal translucency (NT) is the ultrasound appearance of a collection of fluid under the skin behind the fetal neck in the first-trimester of pregnancy. In fetuses with chromosomal abnormalities, cardiac defects and many genetic syndromes the NT thickness may be increased (fetal medicine foundation).

Fetal Wellbeing/Gender Ultrasound

(16-20 weeks)

Most parents like a surprise but other parents are impatient. After 16 weeks we will scan to ascertain gender and will do appropriate measurements for growth and check wellbeing.

Cost €120

Anomaly Scan

(20 - 24 weeks)

This is the most important prenatal ultrasound scan performed around the twentieth week of pregnancy. This scan is a detailed assessment of the development of your baby from head to toe. Multiple measurements will be taken of the baby to assess baby's growth.

A detailed scan is performed of the baby and organs checked include brain, face, lips, heart, diaphragm, stomach, kidneys, bladder, cord insertion, number of vessels in the cord, spine, upper and lower limbs to include the hands and feet. This can never completely guarantee that all is well, but it gives a very strong reassurance.

We also check the amniotic fluid surrounding your baby and the location of your placenta, making sure it is not too close to the cervix.

We can also determine gender at this scan if you wish to find out.

Cost €200

Wellbeing Scan

(24-40 weeks)

This scan is performed to check that baby is growing well, examine the amount of amniotic fluid and check the blood-flow to your baby from the umbilical cord.

During this scan the baby’s head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length are measured to estimate the baby’s weight. The amniotic fluid is measured and umbilical artery Doppler’s are performed to check your placenta and ensure the blood supply to baby is normal. Fetal presentation to determine if the baby is breech or head down will also be documented.

Cost €120

3D/4D Scan

(24-32 weeks)

As ultrasound professionals we would never perform an ultrasound without completing a thorough examination of your baby. A fetal wellbeing scan is always performed as part of a 3D/4D scan.

During the wellbeing scan the baby’s head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length are measured to estimate the baby’s weight.

The amniotic fluid is measured and umbilical artery Doppler’s are performed to check your placenta and ensure the blood supply to baby is normal. Placenta location and fetal presentation to determine if the baby is breech or head down will also be documented.

The 3D/4D scan allows you to clearly see and bond with your baby. Our GE Voluson ultrasound machine is the market leader in 3D and 4D ultrasound technology. Our HDlive technology provides amazingly realistic images of your baby.

We will provide you with video clips (4D) along with still images of your baby. Your videos will be immediately shared with you via Tricefy. Tricefy privately stores your images and immediately shares them with you on any smartphone, tablet or computer.

The 3D/4D scan can be performed from 20 weeks however we recommend booking between 24 -32 weeks for the best pictures. Gender can also be determined at this scan.
